Old Rag - 3,291


What a hike! Old Rag was awesome, and it kicked my butt. Mark and I went for a hike this weekend with our friends John and Anna. It was a great time to catch up with them and meet new friends from their church.

The start of Old Rag was pretty docile, but the trek to summit became quite steep before turning into pure scramble. The scramble was the most fun. When we finally made it to the top, we gathered around for a rest and a snack...as the first rain drops started to fall! We quickly huddled under a rock ledge to eat our long over due trail mix lunch as lightning began to illuminate the valley to our right. Fortunately we were less than a mile from a shelter. The heavy downpour passed quickly. However, the rain forced us to take the mild route/fire road for our decent rather than reversing the scramble. At the end of the day, old rag was a mud covered blast and we cannot wait for a reason to go back! Here are some pictures from the day:
